Chipotle Secrets: Cheaper Burrito Bowl? Failed.
Being the avid Chipotle fan that I am, you can bet that I was pretty fuckin’ excited when I read nevershoutandy’s post about how to get a burrito bowl for a few dollars cheaper.
So to see if that method was actually legit, and following nevershoutandy’s suggestions, I ordered all the components of a steak bowl as a side (with a layer of rice being in the bowl). As I got to the cashier, my order consisted of:
- 2 sides of meat
- 1 layer of rice
- 1 side of pinto beans
- 1 side of mild salsa
- 1 side of cheese
- 1 side of lettuce
As I was about to pay for what I expected to be a less-than-five-dollars bowl, the cashier told me my total was… over $9.00
According to them, some side orders are NOT free (e.g. the cheese) and that meats are considered as “Extra [Meat]” as opposed to “Sides”.
After arguing with the cashier for a bit, I managed to knock the final price down to $5.90 (with tax) by getting rid of the extra side of meat.

So there you have it, a cheaper burrito bowl, albeit not as cheap as I thought it’d be. If you guys decide to test out the “Chipotle Secret”, be wary that it may vary from store to store.
As for me, I don’t think I’ll be up to doing this method again. For one, I love Chipotle enough that I don’t mind supporting their cause by paying full price. Two, it’s somewhat a bit of a hassle and the people working clearly got annoyed. Three, I feel bad for cheating them out of their money.
If you’re still up for it though, then by all means go for it. However, I predict some negative consequences will ensue as more people do it.

My dismantled steak burrito bowl with all the sides I ordered.
